Autumn in the Burnavon, Cookstown brings a season of musical and comedy shows, workshops, talks and exhibitions for people of all ages to enjoy and we are delighted to launch the packed new programme here in Mid Ulster’s premier theatre, arts and cultural venue.
Musical highlights this season include the much loved artists Eleanor McEvoy, Paul Brady, dynamic duo Foster and Allen, The Fureys and More Power to Your Elbow. Audiences can listen to their favourite top tribute acts Talon (The Eagles) and the Bjorn Identity (ABBA). Country music lovers will be delighted with the lineup this season as we welcome back Legends of Country Music, Mike Denver and Jimmy Buckley.
This programme is sure to provide a barrel of laughs with comedy and stand ups, including, Conal Gallen’s new show ‘Caught in the Act’, Des Bishop and David O Doherty all taking to the Burnavon stage this autumn.
In celebration of Culture Night 2019, the Burnavon will host a number of free events on Friday 20 September. There will be an ASD Friendly Cultural Workshop, Bedtime Stories with Storyteller Karen Edwards and a celebration of Ulster–Scots and Irish Traditional music, song and dance with a performance from Fusion.
The Arts and Cultural Development programme within the Burnavon offers a diverse range of children’s and adult workshops as well as exciting exhibitions and history talks. There will be Jiving lessons, Furniture Upcycling, Lego Animation with I pads, Arm Knit Blanket Workshops and Basket Weaving beginning in September and October. Later in the season workshops include Pastel Painting, Bath Bomb Making, String Art, Winter Felt Making for Kids, Old Time Dancing and various festive arts and crafts toward the Christmas period.
Kicking off the festive season is the Ballet Ireland performance of ‘Swan Lake’ performed by an international cast of world–class dancers telling one of the great love stories of classical Ballet. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas in the Burnavon without the much loved ‘Carol & Jimmy’s Christmas Cracker’. The Sperrin Choir are back with a range of traditional, modern and sacred Christmas music, joined, for one night, by the brilliant Sperrin Kidz. Country music fans can indulge in an unrivalled showcase of country music legends at the ‘Christmas Country Showtime’ and ‘A Night with the Country Stars Christmas Cracker’ shows.
In November, the Winter Craft & Food Fair is back as Mid Ulster’s premier craft event in the run up to the festive season and Santa returns in his Burnavon grotto in December for children of all ages to enjoy! Stewartstown Amateur Dramatic Society are back with their much loved Pantomime as they present ‘Aladdin’ throughout the month of January.
With stand–up comedy, live music and entertainment and a new series of workshops for adults and children, there’s sure to be something for everyone to brighten up the dark autumn months at the Burnavon.
