December is off to a ‘golden’ start as audiences are taken back to The Golden Years of Country, by award – winning lyricist and Country Music star, Jimmy Hendry and the Magnificent Seven on Thursday 1st December. This is the most authentic country show of its kind, dedicated to all the singers and songwriters who shared their music with the world, defining an era in Country Music, never to be surpassed. There’s plenty of festive music as we celebrate not only the Christmas season but also the twelfth year that Christmas Country Showtime takes to the stage, as Sean Wallace comperes the best in Country entertainment on Saturday 10th December in the company of Trudi Lalor, Ireland’s leading Country and Gospel recording star making her inaugural appearance on the Burnavon stage.
Trudi will be joined by local favourites Kenny Archer and Boxcar Brian, and also a first timer on the Burnavon stage, Co. Down’s Aislinn Morgan. Michael Mawhinney and perennial favourites Country Harmony complete the festive line–up. Tickets are £16.50 and proceeds from the evenings raffle will be donated to the Childrens’ Cancer Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.
They say it’s a season for reflection, and who better to guide you through than Phil Coulter, who’ll be performing his own ‘Festive Reflections’ on Friday 2nd December. Come and join Phil where he will perform new arrangements of all his favourite classic songs from ‘The Town I Loved So Well’ to ‘Steal Away’ along with a seasonal selection with his very special guest, Geraldine Branagan. Tickets are £23 (£21 concession).
Be sure to have your mince pies at the ready as once again, audiences will be entertained by the Sperrin Choir who on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th December perform a special collection of ‘Songs for the Season’ in their Christmas concert. The concert will feature Sperrin Kidz, who’ll add a real festive buzz to the programme. Tickets are £10 (£8 concession).
In a programme designed with a festive touch, join us on Friday 16th December in the company of Cookstown Youth Choir, Cookstown Folk Club and others to celebrate all the wonderful arts activities produced in our District and supported by Mid Ulster District Council’s Arts and Culture programme. The High Kings hit the Burnavon stage on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th December and tickets, priced £25, have been selling like hot cakes, so limited seats remain – if you want to catch this fantastic live band loaded with talent, showcasing lively new songs and rousing old favourites then you’ll have to be quick!
See the old year out on Friday 30th December with Declan Nerney. Born in the town of Drumlish in County Longford he started at the age of 16 in local band the “The Hi–Lows”. His big break came with his autobiographical song “The Marquee in Drumlish”. Tickets are £20.
Santa will be setting up his Grotto in the Burnavon again this Christmas and all the little ones (and not so little ones) are invited to come along, when there’ll be an opportunity to write and post your letter to Santa, meet the man himself and receive a special gift, with a photograph of your visit. Grotto opening times are from Thursday 8th to Wednesday 21st December. Admission is £6 per child (includes gift and photograph). Please note booking is essential for this event. Mid Ulster School of Music are celebrating the end of 2016 by keepin’ her lit with A Country Christmas on Friday 23rd December. The students from the School will combine hit–songs from the TV show, Nashville, Country classics and Christmas tunes, it’s got something for everyone. It’s your chance to get a sneak peek at the stars of the future! Tickets are £12 (£10 concession).
Christmas and New Year is of course panto season, and this year Stewartstown Amateur Dramatic Society present an absolute classic – Willy Wonka: The Pantomine. Following the success of last year’s pantomime, The Wizard of Oz, Brian Morgan is once again in the Director’s seat, you can be assured of wonderful costumes, amazing sets, great music, and lots of laughs making our traditional festive pantomime unmissable entertainment for the whole family! Tickets are £10 (under 16s: £8 concession; special preview on 6th at £7) and performances are on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2.30pm and 8pm from Friday 6th – Saturday 28th January.
